<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of suppressing the deterioration of visibility due to external light. <P>SOLUTION: An element substrate 21 has a structural birefringent layer 41 which is disposed on the side more separated from a liquid crystal layer 23 than a pixel electrode 11 and a TFT element 12 and polarizes illumination light into polarized light having one polarization direction, wherein the structural birefringent layer 41 is provided with a plurality of birefringent structures 45 which have low reflection layers 45b and high reflection layers 45a laminated in the order from the liquid crystal layer 23 side and are disposed in a stripe shape. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
