PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid ink delivery system improved in discriminating ink sticks. SOLUTION: The solid ink delivery system includes a proper ink stick for defining an underside surface and one or more sensor target surfaces, a frame, a guide for guiding sticks in a pre-determined feeding path, a heater for melting the solid ink and one or more sensors for sensing the presence of one or more target surfaces of a stick underside that extends below the upper surface of the guide. The guide has an upper surface elevated above the sensor interface area such that the one or more sensor target surfaces may act upon the one or more sensors and such that an improper ink stick placed upon the guide does not have an underside sensor target surface extending substantially below the upper surface of the guide and does not act upon the one or more sensors.
