PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt sander which prevents breakage of a body and rupture of a grinding belt by restricting horizontal travel of the grinding belt without reducing efficiency of work by an inexpensive configuration. SOLUTION: This portable belt grinding machine is provided with: an electric motor; a drive pulley 2 rotating by using rotation force of the electric motor as a power source; a belt 1 rotated by rotation force of the drive pulley 2; and an idle pulley 3 to which rotation force of the drive pulley 2 is transmitted through the belt 1. Stoppers 2a, 3a for preventing the belt 1 from moving in the direction crossing the direction of rotation of the drive pulley 2 or the idle pulley 3 orthogonally are provided at one end of the drive pulley 2 or the idle pulley 3.
