PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a starting material for forming a foamed molded product, in which the risk of the molded product exhibiting cracks after being repeatedly subjected to mechanical loads is minimized. SOLUTION: The method for producing the starting material by which the foamed molded product can be formed, which starting material is based on particulate expandable polystyrene (EPS) wherein the method comprises the following steps: (i) supplying a starting material comprising the particulate expandable polystyrene, a blowing agent and a poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene) (SBS) to an extruder, (ii) extruding the mixture supplied in the step (i), and (iii) rendering the material obtained in step (ii) particulate.
