PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce emission of black smoke by improving combustion efficiency without dropping engine output with a simple structure in relation to a diesel engine. SOLUTION: A direct injection type diesel engine provided with a cavity 5 formed in a shape depressed to an inside at a center part of a circular top surface 4a of a piston 4 and a fuel injection nozzle including a plurality of injection holes injecting fuel toward the cavity 5, and formed to form swirl flow S of air turning in a parallel plane to the top surface 4a in a cylinder, is provided with a lip part 1 formed erectly to height of the top surface 5a right above a spray reaching position P1 where fuel impinges on an inner wall surface 5a at an upper end part of the inner wall surface 5a, and a tapered part 2 formed in a groove shape from an inner circumference end 2a near a spray interference position P2 where fuel injected from the plurality of injection holes impinge on the inner wall surface 5a over an outer circumference end 2b of the piston 4.
