The device has multiple drive units (1a,8a,8b), a differential gear having a drive shaft (4) and two output shafts (2,3). Every output shaft forms a rotor (6) over a part of its longitudinal extension, and the rotor is covered by another rotor (7). The former rotor and the latter rotor form a drive unit and rotate opposite to each other. The latter rotor is operated by an unit in the reverse direction of rotation of the comparison basket (5) of the differential gear. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a motor vehicle having multiple drive units.
