DISPOSABLE INSERT, AND USE THEREOF IN METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING AIRFOIL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved process that accurately produces an integral casting core for double wall airfoil casting.

SOLUTION: Disclosed herein is a method of forming an integral casting core comprising adding a disposable insert to a metal core die; disposing a slurry into the metal core die; wherein the slurry comprises ceramic particles; firing the slurry to form an integral casting core; and removing the disposable insert from the integral casting core in the case of firing the slurry. The disposable insert is manufactured by a rapid protrotyping process.
