PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit having a structure capable of fixing a diffusion sheet by removing a diffusion plate; and a liquid crystal display device provided with it.

SOLUTION: This backlight unit is provided with a receiving member having a receiving space and an engagement hole bored therein, a lock member locked to the engagement hole of the receiving member, and a sheet having a lock hole bored therein, and is characterized in that the sheet is fixed by engaging the lock hole with the lock member. This liquid crystal display device is provided with it.
