KNEE PROTECTING AIRBAG DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a knee protecting airbag device wherein a cover part can form large protrusion openings in both right and left side faces of a column cover while reducing damage to a driver.

SOLUTION: The knee protecting airbag device M1 comprises an airbag 45 folded and stored in a lower part 16a of the column cover 16 covering a steering column 3 at its periphery protruded backward from an instrument panel 7 for protecting a knee K of a driver D. The column cover 16 consists of a body 17 as part of the peripheral wall on at least the upper part of the column cover, and a cover part 18 formed separately from the body as part of at least the longitudinal end of the peripheral wall on the lower part of the column cover and removably assembled on the body while covering the folded airbag at its lower side to both right and left sides. The cover part 18 is removed from the body 17 while being linearly moved in parallel thereto during inflating the airbag 45, and it can form the protrusion openings 33 of the airbag 45 between the body 17 and itself.
