PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: with a conventional historical map output unit, it is difficult to visually obtain the relationships between a historical event and the area where the event took place. SOLUTION: A historical map output unit includes: a map information storage section 101 wherein map information can be stored; a historical information storage section 102 wherein historical information relevant to the area shown in the map information is made to correspond to historical time information showing the time of a historical event shown in the historical information and stored; a time specifying information receiving section 103 for receiving time specifying information specifying the time in the past; a historical information acquisition section 105 which retrieves the historical time information corresponding to the time specified by the time specifying information and acquires the historical information corresponding to the retrieved historical time information; and an output section 109 for outputting an image including the image of map information stored in the map information storage section 101 and the image of the historical information acquired by the historical information acquisition section 105, which are configured by an image configuration section 108.
