PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large aperture ratio, telescopic, inner focus optical system that has less aberration variation during focus and has high optical performance in a wide object distance range and to provide an imaging apparatus having the optical system. SOLUTION: The optical system includes, in order from the object side to the image side, a first lens group L1 with positive refractive power, a second lens group L2 with negative refractive power, and a third lens group L3 with positive refractive power, and focuses by moving the second lens group on an optical axis. In this optical system, if the focal distance of the entire system is F, the focal distance of the first lens group is F1, the focal distance of the second lens group is F2, and the focal distance of the third lens group is F3, the following conditions are satisfied: 0.600
