A socket assembly (30) for a prosthetic limb (10) is provided. The socket assembly includes an elongated upper circumferential section (40) having an open upper end (42) and a distal end (44), the distal end having a distal diameter (46). The assembly further includes an intermediate section (50) extending outwardly from the upper section to a maximum diameter (52) that is larger than the distal diameter of the first upper section, the intermediate section tapering inwardly from its maximum diameter to a lower rim region (54). A distal section (6-0) extends from the lower rim region to a base (62) of the socket, and a one-way valve (70) is in fluid communication with an interior of the socket assembly. A flexible diaphragm is configured to engage walls of the intermediate section.
