<p>The present invention relates to an industrially advantageous process for the preparation of thiazolidine derivatives, such as pioglitazone of formula I and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts.This invention also provides novel synthetic intermediates useful in the process for the preparation of pioglitazone.</p>
