The motor vehicle has a hinge device for rotary actuating front hood (5), which covers a front side vehicle opening (4). The hinge device (11) is arranged to partly cover outside of the vehicle opening and adjacent body part, particularly fender (7) or A-column (3) and has a single-articulation hinge. The body part has a through-opening (37), by which the hinge device is displaced with a pedestrian collision into its pedestrian protection position. The through-opening is a recess, open on a body part for vehicle opening. The cover element is a plastic part. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a hinge device for a motor-vehicle (2) a method for displacing a front hood of a motor vehicle, particularly in a hoisted pedestrian protection position.
