PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotor of a rotary electric machine and the rotary electric machine in which irreversible demagnetization of permanent magnets can be suppressed, in a part close to the periphery of the rotor. SOLUTION: A plurality of permanent magnets 17 are embedded in the rotor 14 which constitutes an electric motor, and flux barriers 18 are provided, in a state where they continue to q-axis side ends of the permanent magnets 17. The flux barriers 18 are formed into shapes that have outside peripheral proximity portions 18a closer to the outside periphery of the rotor than portions 17a of the permanent magnets 17 which is closest to the outside periphery of the rotor and to have portions 18b, whose distance from the periphery of the rotor becomes far at the inside peripheral side of the rotor with respect to an extension line L of the outside portion of the permanent magnets 17, in between the outside peripheral proximity portions 18a and the portions 17a of the permanent magnets 17 closest to the outside periphery of the rotor.
