PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus which carries out the segmentation of lungs to units of pulmonary segment automatically.

SOLUTION: The apparatus which carries out the segmentation of lungs to units of pulmonary segment automatically has a means which extracts an interlobar cleft running between lobes of lungs from a CT image and carries out the segmentation of the lungs to units of lobe with the interlobar cleft extracted as an interface and a means which extracts veins in a plurality of pulmonary subsegments running in pulmonary segments of the lungs from the CT image and carries out the segmentation of lobes to units of pulmonary segment using a plane defined by the veins in the plurality of pulmonary subsegments extracted as an interface.
