<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication apparatus, a communication method, and a program capable of detecting movement/shut down, switching a period of a search mode, and suppressing battery consumption. <P>SOLUTION: A search switching means 3 and a movement detecting means 10 are provided at a wireless key 101. If the movement detecting means 10 detects shut down, the wireless key 101 shortens a period of the search mode and lengthens an interval for transmitting a search request signal.
