PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a safe power supply switch without increasing the existing physical operation switches 132, 134, 136 and 138. SOLUTION: This image reader is provided with: the operation switches 132, 134, 136 and 138 which are physically operated by a user; activation circuits 351, 352, 354, 356 and 358 for detecting specific operations to the operation switches 132, 134, 136 and 138 to execute a function (1)312, a function (2)314, a function (3)316, and a function (4)318 which are allocated when a reading part 320 and the activation circuits 351, 352, 354, 356 and 358 are connected to a power supply; and switch circuits 332, 334, 336, 342 and 344 for electrically detecting end operations to the operation switches 132, 134, 136 and 138 and disconnecting the reading part 320 and the activation circuits 351, 352, 354, 356 and 358.
