PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a search environment where information can be retrieved based on a mental image to facilitate selection of search condition and input operations thereof. SOLUTION: An information retrieval system includes a display control information storage means 101 for storing display control information for displaying a plurality of slave images to be retrieved on terminals, a communication means 102, and an information processing means 103 for controlling the operation of these means. The processing means 103 sends the display control information to a user terminal 2a via the communication means 102, and receives a request to send the display control information corresponding to the particular image to be retrieved, selected as a master image to be retrieved, from the user terminal 2a receiving the plurality of slave images to be retrieved according to the display control information. The display control information requested to be sent is read from the display control information storage means 101 and sent to the user terminal 2a via the communication means 102.
