A METHOD OF ENABLING A COMBINED DATA RATE CONTROL LOCK CHANNEL IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A method for enabling a combined data rate control lock channel in a wireless communication system is provided to allocate feedback information in a control channel. A DRC(Data Rate Control)_a(401), a DRC_b(402) and DRC_c(403) are provided in a single RL(Reverse Link) channel for each FL(Forward Link) channel. An AT(Access Terminal)(400) determines channel quality of a forward traffic channel and transmits the DRC information for each received FL channel to an AN(Access Network)(410). After the AN receives the DRCs from the AT, it may use a DRC lock channel to provide quality of the RL channel that provides the DRC information. In detail, a combined DRC lock channel(405) indicating a portion of a forward MAC channel is used when there are one or more multiplexed DRCs reported in an RL carrier. The combined DRC lock channel can be used to inform the AT about whether or not the AN can receive information of the DRCs.
