A method for providing contents according to external environment in an IPTV(Internet Protocol TV) system is provided to search contents such as music or VOD(Video On Demand) associated with corresponding environment information according to the environment information like an external season or weather and offer the searched contents as recommendation contents according to the external environment. A control unit confirms information about external environment(S200,S202,S204). When the external environment information is confirmed, the control unit searches contents suitable for the confirmed external environment information(S206). The control unit displays the searched contents item(S208). The control unit executes corresponding contents selected to be executed among the displayed contents(S210,S212).
