A safety work bench or table (1) has its work space surrounded by a housing (2) with a working aperture located in the housing front face (4), at least one fan , a storage unit, an evaluation unit for ascertaining measured values, and a measuring device for determining a measured value for the flow speed of the air-stream from the fan. An appliance control unit provides a measurement device and ascertains a desired/actual measured value representative of the flow speed from the fan at normal power. An independent claim is included for a method for calibrating a safety work bench.
