An apparatus and a method for controlling a lamp of a microwave oven are provided to extend a lifetime of the lamp and reduce power consumption by turning on the lamp according to humidity sensed in cooking. A key input unit(9) inputs a cooking condition. A first relay switch(12) controls power supplied to a magnetron(13). A second relay switch(14) controls power supplied to a lamp(15) installed to light an inside of a cooking chamber. A humidity sensor(20) senses humidity inside the cooking chamber. A microcomputer(10) controls operation of the first and second relay switches according to the cooking condition inputted from the key input unit and an operation state and further controls the operation of the second relay switch when more than a predetermined humidity is sensed after start of cooking by receiving a value of the humidity sensor. |
