The device (1) has a multi-part housing (5) comprising a base section (6) for accommodating a ribbon cable (2). The base section and a cover section (7) of the housing are arranged at/in insulation-piercing contacts (9). A projection (41) is formed such that it is interpositioned in an opening (39) of the cable, when the cable has the opening. The projection is moved during assembly of the connecting device on a plane of the cable, so that the device is mounted, when the cable has no opening.
