[Class 36.] A suspension clamp for an overhead cable 1 comprises a cable-carrying cradle 2 pivoted to suspension links 14, relative rotary motion between the cradle and the suspension links causing a clamping member 8, which is resiliently connected to the cradle 2, to decrease its clamping action on the cable, so that the clamp will release the cable in the event of breakage of the cable. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the clamping member 8 is retained in the cradle 2 by U-bolts 11 which engage yielding extensions 10 formed on the member 8 and pass through bosses 4 formed on the cradle to receive nuts 12 and spring washers 13. The suspension links 14 are formed with elongated holes 15 to receive the trunnions 6 of the cradle 2, downwardly extending heads 7 being provided on the trunnions to prevent lateral displacement of the links 14. The links 14 are formed on their inner faces above the holes 15 with shoulders 17 adapted to engage pairs of laterally projecting lugs 18 formed on the clamping member 8. Relative motion between the suspension links 14 and the cradle 2 causes the shoulders 17 to bear on one pair of the lugs 18, thereby raising the clamping member 8 and releasing the cable. In a modified construction the U-bolts 11 which clamp the member 8 to the cradle 2 are replaced by J-bolts. Specification 291,968, [Class 36, Electricity, Conducting &c.], is referred to. |
