The present invention relates to an optically variable security device comprising a thin film reflection filter structure (23), which exhibits a first optically variable effect; and a relief structure (20) on or in the thin film reflection filter structure, which exhibits a second optically variable effect; and a opaque metal (separating) film (22) located between said relief structure (20) film and said thin film reflection filter structure (23). This separating film (22) serves for obtaining a state in which a light beam, impinging onto the side of the optically variable security device that is nearest to said relief structure (20) film, is directed to the eye of an observer after primary processing by the relief structure (20), only or by the thin film reflection filter structure (23), only. There is also disclosed a method of manufacturing an optically variable security device, the method comprising making a relief structure (20) in an auxiliary film (21), making a separating film (22) onto said auxiliary film (21) and finally making a thin film reflection filter structure (23) on said separating film (22). |
