An alert generator 204 is configured to receive message signals from a plurality of aircraft systems 218, 220,222 and to generate alert messages 208 based on the received message signals. A flight deck display screen 202 includes a screen portion 210 that is separately controlled by the alert generator 204 to display messages received from the alert generator. The messages may be text messages which may be supplied via a graphics generator. The alert generator may also provide signals 216 to a warning light, a caution light and an aural alert. The alert generator 204 may comprise a separate partitioned software block in a central computing system 212, or a dedicated hardware module, so that its function can be modified by a qualified software tool (eg. a processor, microcontroller, microcomputer or logic controller) substantially independently of the computing functions driving the other flight deck displays. |
