Scanning apparatus with electronic distance control and without distance sensor

The apparatus has a drive unit for movement of a color measuring head over a support surface. A measuring and drive control cooperates with the head and is controlled by the drive unit. An electronic distance control system adjusts distance of the head to a target measuring distance by a measuring point in direction perpendicular to the support surface. The system performs a planetary measurement of the support surface and stores planetary measured values, where the distance adjustment is performed using the stored planetary values.
