A display device and a control method therefor are provided to prevent a screen flickering phenomenon which may occurs when a main power switch is turned off. A lamp(40) lights a display unit(30). An inverter(50) drives the lamp. An image receiving unit(10) receives an image signal from the outside. An image processing unit(20) processes the image signal, which is inputted through the image receiving unit, after converting the image signal into a signal of certain format in which the display unit can process a signal, and outputs the processed image signal to the display unit. A power supply unit supplies power to the inverter. If the power supplied from the power supply unit to the inverter is less than a uniform level, a reset circuit unit outputs a sensing signal. If the sensing signal is received, a control unit(80) turns off the inverter.
