A method for affixing an electronic device (36) having an elongate dipole antenna to a substrate surface (46) includes: positioning a picking apparatus (10) adjacent to the electronic device, the picking apparatus having at least one antenna positioning means (16, 18) such as a magnet (30) positioned adjacent the electronic device; activating the antenna positioning means; moving the opposite antenna ends (40, 42) into a captured relationship with the picking apparatus (10) by means of the antenna positioning means; moving the picking apparatus to a position adjacent the substrate surface (46); engaging the substrate surface with the picking apparatus; and depositing the electronic device (38) to the substrate surface (46). An apparatus for handling an electronic device having an elongate dipole antenna includes: a support body (12) having an open slot (24) defined by guide fingers (20, 22); and an antenna positioning means such as a magnet (30) positioned to move the antenna into the slot and holding the antenna within the slot in an elongate condition.
