A method for forming a catalyst layer of a membrane-electrode assembly for a fuel cell is provided to ensure uniform dispersion of a zirconium compound in a catalyst layer, thereby improving the conductivity, humidifying property and maintenance of the quality of a catalyst layer. A method for forming a catalyst layer of a membrane-electrode assembly for a fuel cell comprises the steps of: dissolving a zirconium compound selected from zirconium butoxide, zirconium chloride and zirconium ethoxide into a solvent, adding a chelating agent and a catalyst selected from nitric acid, sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid thereto, and drying the resultant solution to obtain a zirconium precursor; adding a catalyst, the zirconium precursor and a binder into a mixed solvent containing water and an alcohol, and adding a binder thereto to obtain a catalyst ink; coating the catalyst ink onto an electrolyte membrane or gas diffusion layer, followed by drying, to form a catalyst layer; and introducing the catalyst layer into a solution of phosphoric acid or sulfuric acid, maintaining the temperature of the solution at 80-100 deg.C to convert the zirconium precursor into zirconium phosphate or zirconium sulfate. |
