A display device and a control method thereof are provided to enable a power supply unit to supply power to each component if the power supply unit receives a high pulse signal from a control unit and block the power if the power supply unit receives a low pulse signal, thereby minimizing power consumption in a soft power off state that the display device is powered off. An image processing unit(30) processes image signals received from a broadcasting signal source. A display unit(40) displays images processed by the image processing unit. A power supply unit(20) receives high/low pulses, converts the lower of inputted power, and supplies or blocks power to the image processing unit and the display unit. A control unit(50) receives power supply/block commands, generates the high/low pulses corresponding to the power supply/block commands, and controls the power supply unit. A user input unit(10) is installed in a casing unit to receive a command from a user. A function control unit(60) controls the image processing unit and the display unit in correspondence to a function button if the function button is inputted through the user input unit.
