A turning tool, and a basic body and a shim plate of the turning tool are provided to obtain a turning insert which is stably fixed to a predetermined position while varying stress applied thereto. A turning tool comprises a shim plate(3) and a basic body(1) having a pocket(6) on which a turning insert(2) is mounted. The pocket is open at a front surface(7) and a side surface(8) of the basic body and includes two spaces which are horizontally separated from each other. The shim plate includes an upper part(29) and a lower part(30). A pair of first and second contact surfaces(31,32), an outer end surface(33), and an outer side surface(34) are formed between the upper and lower parts of the shim plate. The first and second surfaces form an acute angle therebetween. The turning insert includes three side surfaces(25).
