A buoyancy unit 40 is disclosed that comprises a rigid enclosure 42 defining an interior volume and a flexible diaphragm 55 that partitions the interior volume into first 60 and second 50 chambers. The first chamber 60 is adapted to contain a gas and has an inlet 62 for connection to a gas supply, and the second chamber 50 has a fluid outlet 52. The diaphragm 55 is movable on charging of the first chamber 60 with gas so as to urge fluid within the second chamber 50 out of the buoyancy unit 40 through the fluid outlet 52. The first chamber may include at least one pressure release vent 64, while the fluid outlet of the second chamber may be a simple aperture. The diaphragm may be fixed at its periphery to the interior surface of the rigid enclosure along a line that is confined to a single plane that bisects the interior volume. |
