An apparatus and a method for controlling eject in an optical disk device are provided to check the RPM of a spindle motor and to brake the spindle motor when the RPM of the spindle motor exceeds or is less than the set value in order to transfer the optical disk to an inner or outer periphery of the disk while the spindle motor is stopped, thereby reducing ejecting time of the optical disk. An apparatus for controlling eject in an optical disk device comprises a memory(38), an RPM detector(36), and a microcomputer(37). An RPM reference value of a spindle motor(32) is stored in the memory. The RPM detector detects RPM of the spindle motor. The microcomputer compares the detected RPM with a reference RPM, stops the spindle motor according to the comparison result, and moves the optical disk. The control unit stops the spindle motor and transfers the optical pickup when the RPM of the spindle motor is greater or less than the reference RPM.
