An apparatus and a method for controlling eccentricity in an optical disk device are provided to detect the outer peripheral eccentricity value of an optical disk and to draw out and re-insert the optical disk when the outer peripheral eccentricity component value exceeds a reference value, thereby preventing recording failure resulting from deviation. An apparatus for controlling eccentricity in an optical disk(20) device comprises an eccentricity controller(30), and a microcomputer(26). The eccentricity controller inactivates a tracking servo, counts a track crossing signal at the outer periphery of the optical disk and detects the outer peripheral eccentricity value. The microcomputer draws out and re-inserts the optical disk when the detected outer peripheral eccentricity value exceeds a reference value.
