POLYPEPTIDE HAVING METHIONINE SYNTHESIS FUNCTION, POLYNUCLEOTIDE CODING THE POLYPEPTIDE, AND THOSE USE

A polypeptide is provided to have an essential function for methionine synthesis as a B12 independent methionine synthase, thereby being used as a good target for developing a novel plant growth controlling material or a herbicide. A polypeptide having methionine synthesis function is selected from the group consisting of: (a) a polypeptide including a total amino acid sequence described in SEQ ID : NO. 2; (b) a polypeptide including a substantial portion of the amino acid sequence described in SEQ ID: NO. 2; and (c) a polypeptide which is substantially similar to the polypeptide of (a) or (b). To inhibit growth of a plant, the activity of a polypeptide having methionine synthesis function and consisting of an amino acid sequence described in SEQ ID : NO. 2 or a similar sequence thereof is inhibited or an anti-sense nucleotide regarding a polynucleotide encoding the polypeptide is introduced into the plant. A material inhibiting the activity of the polypeptide is detected to screen a material inhibiting the plant growth.
