A method for selecting a channel of IPTV(Internet Protocol Television) is provided to select specific contents, using main and secondary channel information through a secondary channel selection unit to make use of the contents formed by ratio of various resolutions and frame according to the user environment. A method for selecting a channel of IPTV comprises completing authentication of a terminal and a subscriber; connecting an EPG(Electric Program Guide) with a web server and receiving at least one main channel information allowed to the terminal; providing a secondary channel selection unit, using a graphic user interface; and generating/transmitting a multi cast socket according to the selected secondary channel. The main channel has the same multi cast IP address, and includes contents formed by ratios of resolutions and frame.
