The elevator system has car arresting devices (5) acting upon the elevator car (1) and operating by a speed limiting cable (10). At least one stop (13) is fastened to the speed limiting cable and through at least one barrier (14,17) fastened in the elevator shaft (4) blocks the path of travel of the speed limiting cable when the barrier is in its activated state (S), thereby operating the elevator car arresting devices. One barrier (14) is provided to create a lower temporary protective space (4a), and the other barrier (17) creates an upper temporary protective space (4a). An independent claim is included for a method for the creating of a temporary protective space in an elevator system. |
