A data upgrading method for a digital broadcasting system is provided to transmit a broadcasting signal including PSIP information reconfigured with upgrade data and receive the broadcasting signal, thereby performing data upgrading with the received upgrade data effectively. A data upgrading method for a digital broadcasting system comprises steps of: displaying an EPG(Electronic Program Guide) data menu screen corresponding to upgrade data presence information and EPG data while reproducing broadcasting(410); checking whether an upgrade request signal is inputted from a key input unit(412); transmitting a data upgrade request signal to a communication module unit(414); reconfiguring PSIP(Program and System Information Protocol) information into upgrade data and transmitting the PSIP information to a multiplexer(416); multiplexing and modulating video and audio signals, and transmitting the PSIP information including the video and audio signals and the upgrade data(418); parsing the PSIP information to detect the upgrade data and store the upgrade data in a storage unit(422); and performing the data upgrading of a broadcasting receiver using the stored upgrade data(424).
