A steam cleaner is provided to prevent a water tank from producing bad smells while suppressing formation of scales by converting hard water into soft water through ion exchange, and avoid corrosion of a heater and clogging of an outlet pipe by disposing a heater outside the water container. A steam cleaner comprises a cleaner pad assembled on a bottom surface of a housing, and a steam unit installed within the housing for jetting steams to a surface to be cleaned. The steam unit comprises a water container(50), a cap(51), an ion exchange unit(80), a pump, and a heater. The water container has a water inlet(50d) on its upper side, and a drain hole(55a) on its lower side. The cap opens and closes the water inlet through which hard water is supplied to the water container. The ion exchange unit is disposed within the water container surrounding the water inlet, to convert water in the water container to soft water through ion exchange. The pump is connected to the water container. The heater heats the water supplied by the pump for producing and jetting steams.
