PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for selecting a payment provider which provides the best incentive or which is the most cost-efficient payment provider.

SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a method for selecting a payment provider in a communication system providing a communications link between a calling electronic device which accesses an alternative payment provider and a called electronic device via at least one network. This method includes: (a) in a calling electronic device, communicating data identifying alternative payment providers to the network via the communications link; (b) in the network contacting, examining costs charged by a plurality of alternative payment providers indicated by the alternative payment provider data; and (c) in the network, determining one alternative payment provider which provides the best incentive, from among the plurality of alternative payment providers.
