PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with disaster recovery and store mass backup data while reducing cost burdens. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a master LU 13 which maintains data to be written into a device body, a backup LU 14 which has an HDD 15 being attachable/detachable to/from a casing 11 and maintains backup data of the master LU 13, and a controller 11 which switches the state of the backup LU 14 and controls writing of the backup data. The controller 11 comprises a backup LU state table 16 which manages a synchronous state to synchronize the backup LU 14 with the master LU 13, the split state to split the backup LU 14 from the master LU13, a copying state to copy the data in the master LU 13 to the backup LU 14, and the offline state to remove the HDD 15 composing the backup LU 14 from the casing 11.
