A television apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to switch another operation mode to a DTV channel mode simply and rapidly without adding specific hardware. A user input member(5) has a DTV key for selecting/canceling a DTV mode and a channel up/down key for switching up/down of a channel. A memory(80) stores DTV channel information for providing a digital broadcasting signal. When the DTV key is selected from another operation mode, not the DTV channel mode, the DTV channel mode is operated by a broadcasting signal processing member controlled by a control member(70). When the up/down key is selected in the DTV channel mode, the DTV channel corresponding to the channel up/down key is switched up/down on the basis of the DTV channel information previously stored in the memory.
