PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a self-extinguishing thermoplastic polyurethane which optionally contains an ordinary additive and/or an auxiliary substance. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a thermoplastically processable polyurethane elastomer (TPU) having a self-extinguishing property comprises reacting (A) at least one organic diisocyanate with (B) at least one polyol by using (C) at least one low-molecular-weight polyol or polyamine as a chain extender and (D) a phosphine oxide-based, at least one organic phosphorus-containing compound, wherein the method for manufacturing a thermoplastically processable polyurethane elastomer (TPU) having a self-extinguishing property has such a property value of 85-120, as [the one that the equivalent ratio of the isocyanate groups derived from (A) to the sum total of Zerewitinow active hydrogen atoms of compounds (B), (C) and (D) is multiplied by 100].
