<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which erroneous detection of a quantity of remaining developer is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: If the total number of prints is not larger than a fixed number and a quantity of remaining developer is determined to be insufficient during a warm-up period after a power source is turned on and a door for allowing the insertion or removal of a developing unit is opened or closed, a developer stirring process is executed, thereby moving the developer to the vicinity of a mechanism that detects the quantity of remaining developer.
