PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device and a projector which are easily miniaturized and manufactured while suppressing the deterioration in polarization degree and uniformity of light flux emitted from the optical device utmost. SOLUTION: The optical device 1 includes a first rod part 10 in which the emitted light flux is converted to light flux having more uniform in-plane light intensity distribution, a reflection type polarization separation part 12 in which light flux related to one linear polarized light component (P-polarized light component) in the light flux emitted from the first rod part 10 is reflected and the light flux related to another linear polarized light component (S-polarized light component) is transmitted and a second rod part 14 in which the light flux transmitted through the reflection type polarization separation part 12 is converted to light flux having more uniform in-plane light intensity distribution.
