PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound to be a readily handleable water-soluble antibacterial composition having good preservation stability and to provide the antibacterial composition and a composition for the oral cavity. SOLUTION: The antibacterial composition comprises a prescribed amount of the compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>3</SB>are each independently a 1-30C hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent; R<SB>4</SB>is a 1-10C bivalent hydrocarbon group: X and Y are each independently any one selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an alkali metal, ammonium or a 1-30C hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent; and Z represents a halogen).
