PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for producing hydrogen where high purity hydrogen not including by-products such as carbon monoxide can be produced using biomass resources and iron oxide. SOLUTION: A mixture of biomass and iron oxide grains is fed to a reduction reactor 10, and the mixture is heated, so as to reduce the iron oxide. A solid phase including iron and carbon obtained by the reduction reactor is brought into contact with water vapor at≤600°C in the first oxidation reactor 20, so as to generate gaseous hydrogen. Then, the solid phase including iron oxide obtained in the first oxidation reactor 20 is brought into contact with the air heated at≥200°C in the second oxidation reactor 30, the iron oxide included in the solid phase is further oxidized and is thereafter fed to the reduction reactor 10 by an iron oxide transferring means 44, and the iron and iron oxide are recycled. Further, a gas phase obtained in the second oxidation reactor 30 is fed to the reduction reactor 10 as an inert gas by a gaseous nitrogen feed line 42. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
