A red light emitting phosphor is provided to ensure high spectrum radiation intensity and high photonic efficiency for transforming short-wave UV radiant rays into biologically active red light radiant rays. A red light emitting phosphor is based on an oxy-sulfide of a rare earth element Zr and/or Hf, and an activator. The phosphor is at least one selected from the group comprising oxy-sulfur-fluorides of La-Y-Zr, Hf having the following formula of (La_(1-x-y-z)Y_xA_yMe_z^(+4)O)_2 S_1(F^(-1))_2z, wherein x ranges from 0.001 to 0.2, y ranges from 0.01 to 0.2, z ranges from 0.001 to 0.005, the activator A from many elements is Sigma(TR^(+3) = Eu, Sm, Gd, Tb)+(TR^(+4)=Rr^(+4)), Re is a rare earth metal, and Me^(4+) is Zr^(4+) and/or Hf^(4+).
